About

Hi, I'm Brian.

Mason & Muse, LLC is my one-person software "studio" in Vermont. You could say I'm an indie app developer, but then most people would look at you weird and I don't want that for you.

Brian, founder of Mason & Muse

I design every screen, sweat every line of code, answer every support email, and obsess over every detail. This isn't always a good thing! But when you use one of my apps, I think it shows. I care. Or there's something wrong. That could also be what's going on.

What I believe

Good software should be simple yet flexible. It should also be fast and attractive, with just a touch of spice. Rumor has it you and good software have a lot in common - ouch!

You might not have noticed, but I'm ancient. And now that I'm ancient and work for myself, I get to build the software I want to build, the way I want to build it. That means I spend time polishing and tweaking things in a way that doesn't make sense to some people until they experience it.

I also believe you deserve a biscuit. Have you had one today?

How I work

Everything is designed and built by me, here in my home in Vermont. And maybe a coffee shop from time to time. Actually they're renovating the library right now so I'm thinking I'll probably hang out there when it's done (it looks like there might be rooftop patio?!). Maybe we'll rent a camp on the lake this summer in which case I'll probably sneak in a few lines of code when no one is looking. But that's just between you and me, so please keep that quiet. I've made some promises...

What I stand for

Don't be the product

I want to make a great product, not make YOU a great product. And don't get me started on ads...

Whimsy for all

Sorry Gen Z girls, but I'm reclaiming this one. Surprise and delight - it's what's for dinner!

Smooth sailing

Software should be fast, flexible and easy to use. It should also look and feel amazing - OoOooo!

I'm with you

I'm independent and self-funded, which my wife thinks is a terrible idea. But it means I only answer to you (and her). Shoot me an email and find out!
